fam

fam is an album about family albums.

It brings together my series (m)other, neg and missing, all of which deal with family photography.

The photo-book fam can be seen as the quintessence of a long search by which the artist courageously and subtly unearths her family roots and sheds light on events that were all but forgotten. (…)

Jaquet’s concept of collaging and superimposing engages her spectators in a differentiated, yet very real enactment of personal and general human dimensionalities in the complex workings of inner images and the flow of thoughts. It stimulates images that arise when exposing the human soul, but also when memory transforms. (…)

The book fam takes the form of a classic family album between past and present. (…) In this artwork external realities and internal worlds of imagination collide and overlap. It stimulates the mind and possesses a special haptic quality because the creation of these images corresponds with their respective photographic techniques and materiality. Linen pergamyn and photo corners on white paper are in dialogue with deckle edges on black paper. This book was printed, but it also contains glued-in and loose photographs, as well as seemingly wanton tear marks. It is a hybrid object that reflects on the classic genre of the photo album, its design, definition and state of perception. It is an artist’s book that eludes linear codification and offers an unlimited scope of evolving possibilities for viewing.
